Bom dia.

If you thought the international break would be a chance to catch your breath from all the nonstop woso’ing across multiple continents, well you would be sadly and hilariously mistaken. Also, lol, how even dare you. Anyway, not only did the USWNT get dunked on by Portugal, but the slate of upcoming games this week — from U17 WWC to UEFA & CONMEBOL Nations Leagues to friendlies to NCAAW — is downright delectable.

From a personal standpoint, we’ve been dealing with a family emergency so I haven’t been able to dig into writing some old and new ideas I have. Apologies to you, they will be coming soon, but we need the time right now. I appreciate the love and understanding.

u17 wwc
norway v. usynt
9 a.m. | fs2

friendly
italy v. japan
9 a.m. | ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

uefa nations league [semifinals, leg 1]
germany v. france
11:45 a.m. | paramount+ (maybe golazo network?)
spain v. sweden
2 p.m. | paramount+ (maybe golazo network?)

9 a.m. | ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

conmebol nations league
argentina v. paraguay
7 p.m. | fox soccer plus, TUDN
colombia v. peru
7 p.m. | ViX

  • The Baby USWNT versus Baby Norway should be fascinating, and could reveal the age at which Norway’s unserious sets in.

  • I dunno where to watch Italy versus Japan but I can tell you that I am mad about it!! Italy feel like they could be on an upward trajectory with their young generation, and I need to know if this lesser known Batman villain is gonna keep ruining Japan.

  • Ain’t gonna lie, this new Nations League thing often has me confused but whatever, we have a banger semifinal round with Germany v. France and Sweden v. Spain. And they’re two-legged semis so we get each matchup twice, #proper #football #innit.

  • CONMEBOL’s Nations League is just kicking off and will ultimately decide who goes to the World Cup. Colombia is always a fun watch, even if they’re being maximum chaos demons. Argentina are in that weird spot where they have a talented young squad coming through, but still need the vets. If that changes this tournament they could be a fun and unpredictable squad come 2027.

u17 wwc
ivory coast v. spain
9 a.m. | fs2

friendly
england v. brazil
9 a.m. | paramount+

ncaaw
smu v. #2 stanford
10 p.m. | espn+

  • I really do not need to sell you, dear reader, on England versus Brazil now do I? I think it’s really smart for each team to play teams with drastically different styles, and I am extremely eager to see how the Lionesses cope with Brazil’s constant player-on-player pressure.

  • Don’t forget about college woso, it’s about to get so very serious. It took Stanford a season or so to figure out how to cope with the ACC and all that dang travel, but they’re #2 now and cookin. SMU is a #progrum with ambitions, so will probably scrap quite hard. Should be a fun one.

sunday, october 26

1 p.m. | espn+
syracuse v. #23 north carolina
1 p.m. | espn+
pittsburgh v. #3 virginia

#1 notre dame v. wake forest

#10 vanderbilt v. #17 south carolina

alabama v. #14 tennessee
3 p.m. | espn+
#9 tcu v. arizona state
4 p.m. | espn+
#7 duke v. nc state
7 p.m. | espn+

friendly
uswnt v. portugal
3 p.m. | peacock, telemundo, universo
mexico v. new zealand
5 p.m. | TUDN, ViX

  • Bonkers college woso day tbh. If you wanna know why Notre Dame is #1, Virginia is #3 and Memphis is #4, you should watch these games and get familiar with their star talents. With no draft, your team could be welcoming one of them to the squad in a matter of months.

  • The USWNT get another shot at Portugal, which they really shouldn’t need. I’m not sure if, internally, Emma Hayes feels like she has the lessons to learn from the first game, or if it’s on the players. We’ll probably get a couple clues from the XI she rolls with (specifically the midfield she rolls with).

  • I keep waiting for Mexico to take the step their talent suggests they’ll be taking any day now. We won’t exactly get a ton of insight into that against New Zealand, but still, a dub and a couple highlight vids for social would be lovely to see.

conmebol nations league
ecuador v. colombia
7 p.m. | fs2, TUDN
paraguay v. venezuela
7 p.m. | fox soccer plus, ViX

  • I’m assuming Paramount+/Golazo Network just haven’t gotten around to telling everyone they’ll have the second legs of the UEFA Nations League semis, but they should. It would be very silly if they didn’t. So hopefully they do.

  • Won’t lie though I am most excited for Norway versus Japan. Laughing at Norway is always funny, but don’t tell anybody but I still have about 5% hope that they’ll get it together with the talent they have. Even if that happens, it probably (or shouldn’t) happen against Japan — even if I’m not sold on their new coach just yet.

  • England and Upside Down England get to scrappin, which should be fun. I doubt Sam Kerr will be on the pitch much, if at all. But if she gets on, expect England to go through some very intense PTSD.

wednesday, october 29

Quarterfinal 8
3 p.m. | fs2

friendly
uswnt v. new zealand
8 p.m. | TNT, peacock, universo, hbo max

  • The USWNT’s close out the window against New Zealand. Given how the first game went, we’ll see if this is a game they can go into to stunt a little bit, or if they’re gonna be scrappin for any result to lower the temperature of ongoing chatter.

  • More college woso as we get closer to the College Cup. Some pretty big matchups here, and don’t sleep on some of these unranked teams. College soccer is wild, and many unranked teams will be sending a baller or two to the professional level. These matchups won’t all be easy for the ranked teams, but they should all be fun.

Rambled, but did my best.

It’s USWNT roster drop time! I go through the group position by position to see who’s earned their spot, who needs to earn their spot, and whomst might be missing.

This week the unbeaten streaks of the league’s top two teams were broken, others clinched playoff spots, San Diego hypnotized Chicago, and results left plenty of intrigue for NWSL Decision Day. The Chaos Gods brought us too far to abandon us now.

Here’s what went down…

[Spirits v. Courage Review]
🍎 Apple | 🟢 Spotify

Annie & Ella chat about a very weird final home game for the Spirit. They discuss two own goals, a beautiful team, and just how fans should react to the end of Washington's winning streak. They also share their opinions on stutter step penalty kicks, try to list all of the Spirit players called up in this international window, and mention a referee once again getting it mostly right.

farewell fun.
