‘Lights On’ -Big Boi & Phantogram

And just like that, we are so back. Well, we didn’t really leave. The international break was a bit bonkers and I hope you were able to catch some of it. Canada and Denmark played a couple bonkers matches (one ended with a penalty shootout for some reason), Mexico and Jamaica traded bangers across two games, and Japan and Germany played a 2-1 banger (Germany might be back back).

Of course here most eyes were on the USWNT’s two matches against Spain. Here’s a recap/dumping of thoughts I had after thinking way too much about both games:

Now back to club football, where last we left you the NWSL was entering its peak spooky season. The final table is three regular season games away and there are still enough points available to shake shit all the way up. Your woso watchlist is below, and has the stuff I’ll be keeping an eye on, including the scenarios to track as the games unfold.

Let us woso, expeditiously…

things to know…

by Jeff Kassouf

The World Health Organization recommends a 21-day quarantine after visiting DR Congo, not Uganda. The CDC, however, sent out a mandate October 11—the middle of the international break—to add Uganda and South Sudan to their guidance.

Of course with this Administration the question has to be asked whether there is any scientific evidence to support this, or whether it’s a cover to enact racist mandates.

There is some absolutely brain-melting Berman-speak in here: “When they invested in this league, I think it’s not an overstatement to say that it was a completely different value proposition and investment thesis and expectations for capital,”

I’ll never understand why she chooses to speak like this.

Anyway, I thought the strict adherence to a minimal salary cap was supposed to prevent things like this? Interesting. Much to think about.

  • It’s a Saturday full of mf’n bangers.

  • Spirit v. Gotham is a hell of a way to kickoff the day. Gotham can’t clinch the Shield, but they could certainly wrap a finger or six around it if they win. The Spirit, meanwhile, need to avoid dropping out of the top 4 if they want a chance to host a playoff game at Rowdy Audi.

  • A Utah win would keep them in position to fight for a home playoff game, while Kansas City could leapfrog them with all three points. The Current have the best home record in the league, getting a playoff game there should be all they care about for the next three games.

  • North Carolina have a 20-goal scorer but could end the weekend below the playoff line with a loss. San Diego has a chance at the Shield, but needs to collect every single point while hoping Gotham stumbles. They’ll have several eyes on the Spirit earlier in the day.

  • Denver’s playoff charge was interrupted by Kansas City beating them 4-1, so now all they have to do to get back in the mix is face the hottest team in the league, Angel City.
